Dr. Erin Klein grew up in Oak Park, IL and remembers always wanting to be a physician. While many people with this same memory would remember their pediatrician as a child, she remembers her podiatrist. She visited her podiatrist when she was eight years old, for a wart, to a variety of other random foot issues throughout the years. Most importantly, she remembers always feeling better after leaving his office. As a competitive skater and part of the Miami University Synchronized Skating Team throughout college, Dr. Klein’s foot problems continued into early adulthood. Being a Division I college student athlete for four years was an experience that had an exceptional effect on who she is today.
After completing her Master’s degree at Miami University, she attended The William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Her residency was focused on treating veterans at Long Island’s Northport Veterans Affairs Hospital, training with one of the best foot and ankle orthopedic trauma surgeons in the region. The experience of training at the VA was one that exceeded most other training facilities, providing her with a more thorough understanding of the human body and how foot pathology is related to the rest of the body. This experience also fueled her understanding and ability to analyze complex situations and patients in the pursuit of better patient care.
Her year as a fellow was spent in an intense study of surgical mastery with an emphasis on surgical research, where Dr. Weil Sr and Jr impressed the importance of critical self-assessment in an effort to improve ourselves and the care of others, striving to improve patient care and patient outcomes. Since that year, the WFAI research team has won multiple grant awards and presented research on the national and international podiatric and orthopedic stage. It is an honor and a privilege for Dr. Klein to be a part of the Weil Foot & Ankle Institute team, providing cutting edge care to patients while genuinely doing what she loves.
When not at work, you can find Dr. Klein enjoying the outdoors; with her husband, Brian; their twins, Evelyn and Riley; and her parents, Dan & Georgette. She also enjoys figure skating, synchronized skating, baseball, and gymnastics.
