Bunion Surgery FAQs

No. Many patients do well with non-surgical care like orthotics, shoe changes, spacers, and activity modification. Surgery is considered when pain persists or deformity progresses despite conservative care.

MIS uses smaller incisions and specialized instruments to reduce soft-tissue disruption. Patients often experience less pain, smaller scars, and a faster return to activity compared to traditional approaches.

Lapiplasty® corrects the bunion in three planes and stabilizes the unstable joint at the base of the first metatarsal. Bunionplasty® emphasizes precise correction with an aesthetic-minded approach. Your surgeon will recommend the option best matched to your anatomy and goals.

Protocols vary by procedure and patient factors. Many MIS patients bear weight in a protective shoe soon after surgery; others require a brief period of limited weight-bearing. Your UFAI surgeon will outline a personalized recovery plan.
