Dr. Douglas Hale is a podiatric physician with Integrative Foot and Ankle Centers of Washington, specializing in sports medicine, extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ECSWT), foot and ankle conditions for all ages, trauma, biomechanics, orthotic therapy, and consultant for reconstructive foot and ankle surgery.

He earned his undergraduate degree in engineering from Tulane University and graduated with honors from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Hale completed his advanced reconstructive surgery training through the Northwest Foot and Ankle Surgical Residency Program in Seattle. His residency, currently based at the Swedish Medical Center–Providence campus, provides extensive clinical and hospital experience in both common and complex conditions of the foot and ankle, and many other areas including radiology, anesthesia, microsurgery, neurology, vascular surgery, rheumatology, emergency medicine, orthopedic surgery, and plastic surgery.

Dr. Hale has more than 30 years of experience diagnosing and treating a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, from straightforward issues to more complex problems. With a background in engineering and advanced training in biomechanical evaluation, foot and ankle pathology, and surgery, he takes a thorough and thoughtful approach to each patient. He performs a complete examination to determine the true cause of a patient’s symptoms. He has previously served as the Chief of Podiatry Staff at Swedish Medical Center and continues to teach as an instructor and residency director.

Dr. Hale’s philosophy centers on providing detailed opinions, both surgical and non-surgical, with a strong focus on exploring all conservative treatment options before considering surgery. These treatments may include advanced methods such as extracorporeal shockwave therapy, ultrasound, and 3D imaging. When conservative care is not enough, he offers surgical solutions that are carefully tailored to each patient’s individual needs.

Outside of practice, Dr. Hale serves on the Board of Directors to the International Foot and Ankle Foundation for Education and Research, leads a yearly Complications Conference, runs monthly foot and ankle Grand Rounds and is a frequent educator.
